FAQ

When is The Edict of Alchemy coming to bookstores?

The book has no set release date, but with the manuscript nearly finished, I will be submitting queries to agents again soon. I am also finishing up working with a developmental editor, who will ensure my manuscript is in the best state it can be.

What was the inspiration for the story?

The story was inspired by various historical movements, including various religious reformations, imperialism, and events within the Ottoman Empire, Persia, and India.

The world building has numerous inspirations which vary by each specific in-world culture/ideology. Inspirations include multiple Middle Eastern and Central Asian traditions, as well as alchemy and Eastern Orthodox spirituality.

What is the genre and target age group of the story?

The Edict of Alchemy is categorized as adult fantasy, geared at ages 20 and older. It focuses on politics, cultural tensions, overcoming loss, and the process of personal and spiritual transformation.

These heavy themes, paired with complex world-building and morally ambiguous scenarios, make it an excellent candidate for those looking for a more mature fantasy read.

Are there any content warnings I should be aware of?

I strive to make my works as accessible as possible for sensitive audiences: thus I limit the amount of description for potentially distressing events. Still, there are some events that more sensitive audiences should be aware of.

  • Blood (but with limited descriptions of gore)
  • Violence (but with minimal to no descriptions of gore, or entirely “off-screen”)
  • Mental illness
  • Suicide

Currently, the best way to support me is to subscribe to my newsletter and follow my socials. Donating to my Ko-fi will also help me cover costs!

Do you use AI in your work?

Outside of my profession, I do not use AI in my writing or artwork ever, except for the occasional grammar or sentence structure suggestion. I believe that writing, art, and humanity’s many other creative endeavors cannot and should not be replaced by a regurgitation machine because this undermines the soul and purpose of creating.

I also support a creator’s rights to their works, and do not consent to my work being fed to generative AI.
